Gingerbread House Contest

Here are some pics from the Gingerbread House Design Contest with friends at Bible study a little over a week ago.  The teams were supposed to be Boys vs. Girls, but with 6 gingerbread house kits between us and a sense of “too many architects on the construction site”, Steph and I defected and formed our own team.  The candy was plentiful, the frosting was seriously like half-dried yet sticky cement, and the little sugar people were soooo cute.  I got pretty obsessed with making sure the roof was blanketed with snow, and that miserable little snowman in the front year kept slowly melting like a Calvin and Hobbes creation.  The competition was fierce, with a gingerbread mansion and a gingerbread madhouse of gummy bear mutations also vying for the honor of 1st Place.  Somehow, Steph and I got voted to the top, and we got to take home the Starbucks CD.  The slideshow features one of my favorite tunes off the CD — one of the most interesting versions of Carol of the Bells that I have heard in a long time.  (And I’m still trying to get that Garmin.com version out of my head.  Arg.)  Click the center of the slideshow to play!  Photos courtesy of Jason Kuo Photography. Here are a handful of favorite pics from the evening, for those of you who don’t like Flash-based slideshows.  =]

Tell me about your holiday happenings!  (And let me know if you have any issues with the slideshow so I can fix it.)

  1. wow cool! you were able to blow up the slideshow without running into any issues! but then you only have 41 images, not 150+.. hmm… i should try that out sometime.

ryc: haha thanks. since you have stanford connections, can you make it happen? 😉

  2. Oh you MUST try Slanted Door sometime (soon before they up their prices!). I was talking about it with one of my managers (who was a restaurant manager for nearly two decades) and he doesn’t understand how the heck they are still in business. Maybe because they are in Healdsburg haha. I have a feeling they’re going to raise prices soon though, because they do so much for you! I was tempted to tell all in my post but didn’t want to spoil it for anyone.

Anyway now I might be raving too much. So lower your expectations (a little bit), save some money for your next anniversary…=) (oh, and reservations should be made at least a month in advance unless you go on M-Th) You don’t have to get the tasting menu. If I could only recommend one restaurant to you/Steph for a special occasion this is definitely it.
