USB Wireless Adapters

Had a recent question from a reader about what to do to connect a desktop tower computer to a wireless home network.

  • Kenneth, I could not get a desktop to connect to a laptop using Internet Connection Sharing.  Could I use one of these Medialink Wireless Adapters instead? Lemme know! P.S. Tomorrow, I have to use airport express to create a network printer.  We’ll see how it goes.
Sorry to hear the Internet Connection Sharing is not working! =/

Anyway, The Medialink wireless USB adapter should be fine. Here’s another USB wifi adapter for about half the price and I don’t see any reason it’s inadequate, so up to you which one you’d like to try.

Printer sharing through the Airport Express shouldn’t be too bad, but the main tricky part is making sure the computers can see the Airport Express. Some VERY minimal instructions at http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/setup.html. Some slightly more step-by-step instructions at http://www.ehow.com/how_4924958_set-wireless-printer-airport-express.html. An extended explanation intended for people who need to troubleshoot the process at http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_to_mac_printer_hook_up_airport_express.html
